An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away! . . .

. . . An onion a day should take care of everyone else! :)

I saw this funny sentiment on Splitcoaststampers and printed it on my pc to use for the inside of this card. This is a fun card design, but a little tricky to photograph. In the first picture, I had to tape the card closed so you can see how it looks before you open it. The second picture shows how it opens to reveal the inside sentiment. And then the third picture is a closeup so you can read it better.

This is just a standard 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 card, but the front is folded in half again at 2-1/8". The patterned paper is by the Paper Studio - Harvest Stripes. The bucket of apples is from the Stampin' Up! "Give Thanks" set. I've colored it with prismacolor pencils and blended with gamsol.
This card is a repost from August 2007. It's one of my favorites and since I'm going for an 'apple theme' here today, I thought I would post it again! :) (Is that legal?) I know there are many of you new to my blog, that may not have seen this one. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :)Besides that, I've been busy picking apples and making an apple pie today so there hasn't been any time to stamp yet.

This has been an exceptionally good year for apples in our area and the tree in our backyard produced more than ever before. They are red delicious, so a great apple for eating, but not for baking. MW (Mr. Wonderful) has been begging for an apple pie so I decided to make a trip to the apple orchard for some yellow delicious. They are my favorite for eating and baking!

Picture this pie with two pieces already gone out of it. SCRUMPTIOUS! It was still warm from the oven when we added a couple scoops of ice cream to the top. I have to tell you that for years I've made my own pie crusts and it isn't difficult, but it takes more time and effort to make a pie. My sweet DIL Jami introduced me to Pillsbury refrigerated pie crusts and they are a godsend! Seriously, I made this pie in an hour and it takes about 45 minutes to bake! The recipe I use is from my old trusty Betty Crocker cookbook that I've had for over 30 years.

I think that apple pie is one of the easiest pies to make. The hardest part for me is peeling and slicing the apples. After that, it’s a simple matter to mix the ingredients, mound them on the pre-made pie crust, and pop the pie in the oven.

Now I better go try to help MW with the floor base in the bathrooms. We had new flooring installed and now we need to reinstall the wood base. He's got bad knees so he's not too happy about doing this. Now you know why I made him the apple pie today! ;)

There are some really great sketch challenges this weekend so I hope to get in some stamping later. Thanks so much for stopping by today....have a wonderful weekend everyone! Smiles, Pam :)

Easy Apple Pie
[you'll need pastry for two crust 9" pie]
I recommend Pillsbury refrigerated pie crust
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cinnamon
dash of salt
7 cups sliced apples (yellow delicious or jonathan are my favs)
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
---------------------
1. Heat oven to 425F. Prepare pastry.
2. Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in large bowl. Stir in apples. Turn into pastry-lined pie plate. Dot with butter or margarine. Cover with top pastry; seal and flute. Cut slits in the top crust and sprinkle lightly with a sugar/cinnamon mix.
3. Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until crust is brown and juice begins to bubble through slits in crust. Serve warm and top with vanilla ice cream if desired. DELICIOUS!

OMGosh, Pam! You are such a sweetheart! Thanks so much for the link to my blog! And THANKS for sharing that recipe! Pie is not one of my strong-suits when it comes to baking but I can do that apple pie easily. My Mom just visited last weekend and brought 2 pies with her and we devoured them. I've always wanted to be able to make apple pie, but to ask her for the recipe I get "a little of this, and add that" and I have to have specifics. I will definitely print your recipe and add the Pillsbury crusts to my shopping list! And your apple card is adorable! I love the fold, and the coloring is great, too!

I'm glad you re-posted this card, I had not seen it. I love the unique fold. I had decided to make an apple pie today and was going to hunt a recipe, now I don't need to!

What a pretty card! and that pie looks so good! Apple pie is My Handyman's favorite. I've made apple dumplings, apple cobbler, apple crisp but never apple pie. I guess I should be brave. You make it sound easy

Hi Pam, thanks for your sweet comment on my blog. I must say, we have some things in common...I was just saying over the weekend, when I made a pie SO QUICKLY because I used a premade pie crust, it was a such a pleasure! I can make piecrust, but the Pillsbury ones are so good, you could take that extra time to stamp a card!!!! I also have an old BC cookbook--mine is much older than 30 years, though! Eeek! It was the same one my grandmother used in the 40s & 50s. Okay, it's a reprint, but same one! You will not find a microwave recipe in THAT book! :D
I LOVE this apple card, and the Halloween sketch is so cute--I will have to check out that site!
TFS!
